The Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr Forster Ihejiofor, who revealed this said that the government planned to plant, two million Coconut Trees within the next four years.

Correspondent Valentine Mbadugha reports that Dr Ihejiofor revealed this while receiving members of the National Coconut Producers, Processors and Marketers Association of Nigeria, NACOPPMAN, led by their National President, Dr Nma Okoroji in his office at the ADP Complex, Awka.

Dr Ihejiofor said that eating organically grown foods is key to building a healthy lifestyle which he said is part of the key agenda of the Soludo led administration.

He expressed satisfaction with the group’s visit and promised effective synergy as the state government is committed to creating jobs and diversifying the economy through agriculture.

Dr Okoroji had earlier stated that they aim to partner Anambra State Government to maximize the benefits of coconut for economic stability.

She maintained that coconut has abundant economic value and regretted that ninety per cent of coconuts consumed in Nigeria is being imported from neighbouring countries whereas Nigerian lands are very fertile especially Anambra Soil.

She also said that Anambra State as one of their partner states has been given one thousand seedlings of coconut stored at Omor and Omasi, Anyamelum Council Area, promising effective monitoring.

In a vote of thanks, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry Agriculture, Mrs. Stephanie Keri-Uzo, who said that the visit and presentation were in line with the agenda of the Soludo led administration with regards to agriculture, assured the ministry’s readiness to make Anambra State, coconut producing and export state.
